Lerk Thai – A good Thai Restaurant to try

This time around, I decided to try out some Thai food. There was this Lerk Thai Outlet in Woodlands Civic Centre, which was in my radar for some time. Recently they underwent some renovation and opened in Mid-May.

When we reached Lerk Thai at around 7 pm on Sunday, it was already packed and people were still coming in good numbers. Luckily we got our seat without too much waiting. We were given the menu card and got our seat ready.

At the first glance on the menu card of Lerk Thai, it looked like a bit overpriced to me. There are not too many items in the menu, but enough to satisfy everyone. The one item that came to my mind immediately was the Thai Omelette with Minced Chicken. Other than Omelette, we decided to order Tom Yum Seafood Fried Rice and Fried Rice with Chicken Cutlet. We also decided to order Mango Sticky Rice, Lime Juice and Iced Lemon Tea.

There will be no one coming to out seat to take our order. We have to go to the ordering counter and place our order there. The cashier will ask for our table number and then after confirming our order, we need to pay and go back to our seat. After checking the items, we were told that the Mango Sticky Rice is out of stock and so we replaced it with Thai Honey Mango with Pomelo and Sago, which turned out to be a perfect desert.

It took around 20 mins for the food to be served. The Lime juice and Iced Lemon Tea came first, followed by the Omelette and the rice’s. We asked the Thai Honey Mango to be served later.

Coming to the food items, Fried Rice with Chicken Cutlet was really yummy and tasty. This is the dish that I had. The chicken was cut into few nice and crispy pieces. There was a bowl of nicely cooked rice, mixed with some sauce and tomatoes. There was 2 piece of cucumber and some fish crackers also, as side. Fried Rice with Chicken Cutlet was perfect main food to try, for someone who is new to Thai Food.

The Tom Yum Seafood Fried Rice to me was very spicy. But Tom Yum is supposed to be that way correct. But it was a bit over spicy to me and I didn’t concentrate too much on it. It also had the cucumbers and fish crackers, with one bowl of  nicely cooked rice.

The Thai Omelette with Minced Chicken, was the dish that I was waiting for. It turned out to be very tasty and I was happy with my selection. The Thai Omelette with Minced Chicken was a perfect blend of chicken and egg and was big enough for 2 people to share and have enough. My only complaint was that it is very oily. May be Lerk Thai team can look into it.

The Thai Honey Mango with Pomelo and Sago, which was not out first choice, was really the surprise package and it helped to reduce the hotness of the Tom Yum Seafood Fried Rice. It tasted like mango custard, but made in a different way. It was a perfect desert to have after the spicy dinner. The lime juice was very tasty as well. Iced Lemon tea was a let down.

All in all, it was a good experience for us at Lerk Thai, though it is a bit expensive. We all enjoyed our dinner at Lerk Thai. The staff at Lerk Thai were very friendly and attended to all details carefully, even though they were busy. The total bill came to SGD 49.30 for 4 of us.

There is a small suggestion from my side to Lerk Thai team. There were a few flies buzzing around the whole area and it was a sort of bother. I doubt it has something to do with the open concept that you are following at the Civic Centre outlet. Please look into it and try to reduce that inconvenience.

Apart from that, it was a wonderful dining experience at Lerk Thai. I will definitely recommend Lerk Thai to anyone who wants to try Thai Food in Singapore
