Windows 10 upgrade using Media Creation Tool

Windows 10 is the latest buzz going around these days. Whether good or bad, there is always a news or the other about Windows 10.

If you are owning a qualifying Windows PC, you had the option of reserving the upgrade to Windows 10. This upgrade offer to Windows 10 will expire a year from July 29th. If you did reserve your copy, chances are high that your PC had downloaded a copy of Windows 10 in the background. At some point of time, Windows 10 will invite you to begin the upgrade process.

But if you are desperate and don’t have the patience to wait till Windows invites you for the upgrade, there is a tool that Microsoft provide, called Media Creation Tool. The Media Creation Tool can be used to upgrade your current PC to Windows 10 or to create a USB or DVD and install Windows 10 on a different PC.

This post is a step by step walk through on the process of upgrading to windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool.

Run the tool

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, select Upgrade this PC now in the tool.

Click Install. I have selected to keep all files and app. If you dont want, you can change by clicking Change what to keep

Here you can either go with Express settings or can Customize settings. If you select customize, the next 2 images will come, where you can select the options. Else it will go to the 3rd image from here

That’s all. So if you are desperate to upgrade to Windows 10, you can follow this post and proceed to enjoy Windows 10. Please note that only Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1 PC’s can make use of this upgrade offer. If you are still using XP or Vista, you will have to do a fresh install.
